Council Welcomes Back-to-School Cash Assistance
January 10, 2023
The Consumer Council of Fiji (CCoF) welcomes the back-to-school cash assistance of $200 per child for families with an income of $50,000 or less which was announced by the Hon. Prime Minister this afternoon.
“Consumers are still feeling the brunt of global inflationary pressures which are forcing them to cut back spending, even on some essentials. Therefore, the Council is elated with this announcement as it will increase consumers’ purchasing power; easing some burden during these difficult times. With more coffers in their pockets, parents will be able to ensure that their children are properly equipped for the new school year”, said CCoF Chief Executive Officer Ms. Shandil.
The Council is urging eligible parents to access this assistance and ensure they use it in a smart and productive manner after carefully planning their back-to-school shopping.
“Now with an additional week of school holidays, parents will have more time to conduct comparative shopping and plan their purchases to ensure they get the best deals and their monies worth. We are also urging traders to uphold good business practices as Fijians will be out in numbers for back-to-school shopping this month,” said Ms. Shandil.
For consumer issues, the Council can be contacted on toll-free number 155. Alternatively, consumers can lodge complaints using the Consumer Council of Fiji mobile app.
