World Consumer Rights Day 2023

March 17, 2023

World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD), observed annually on March 15 aims to increase public awareness on consumer rights, protection, and empowerment worldwide. Celebrating the day is a chance to demand that the rights of all consumers are respected and protected.

The build up to this year’s WCRD had already started in 2022. The world leaders at COP27 in Egypt focused on securing a just transition in the energy sector. In support of this, the WCRD 2023 theme was announced by Consumers International as: “Empowering Consumers Through Clean Energy Transitions”. Amidst the greatest cost-of-living crisis in a generation and as the energy world drastically responds to supply and climate issues, consumers have a core role to play in delivering a just transition. Hence, the Council will bring together stakeholders, consumers and other actors in the energy sector to engage in robust discussions on how this can be achieved.
