Joint Task Force to Investigate Impersonation Scam

October 9, 2023

The Consumer Council of Fiji is issuing an urgent and renewed warning to the public regarding the impersonation fraud that continues to target innocent consumers.

Earlier this year in July, the Council uncovered an imposter who was impersonating Mr. Kamal Chetty, the CEO of Investment Fiji, asking for money in exchange for lucrative investment returns. The same fraudster has been impersonating other CEO’s, Hotel Managers and General Managers, asking their staff for money transfers through the M-PAiSA platform. Despite previous efforts to curtail this activity, this individual remains active, preying on unsuspecting victims.

The Consumer Council of Fiji, through the Multi-Interagency Taskforce chaired by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Trade, has begun investigating these criminals in order to bring them to justice. Individuals involved in these fraudulent impersonation schemes are hereby warned that strict enforcement action will be taken against them once they are caught.
