The Consumer Council of Fiji’s fundamental aim is to promote and safeguard the interests of consumers stipulated under the Consumer Council of Fiji Act – 1976.


SENIOR MEDIA OFFICER – SUVA OFFICE

The applicant will promote the services of the National Consumer Helpline (NCH). He/she will be required to plan, coordinate and execute campaigns and awareness raising programs; develop awareness and publicity materials and disseminate information through mass media; write press releases on key consumer issues; encourage consumers to use NCH; and assist consumers in resolving complaints with traders and service providers. A person who has flair for creative writing; has extensive experience in proof reading and good analytical skills; and has passion in consumer protection and consumer justice is what the Council is looking for.

 At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and mass media communications; Education, Social Science, Economics or Development Studies is appropriate. A minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in related field. Must have the ability to read, write and speak in Hindi. Experience in online communications; excellent communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to communicate fluently in English language is essential.

Salary Level: $26,576 - $38,727. The contract will be for 3 years subject to renewal based on good performance.

 

CONSUMER OFFICER (ADR) – SUVA OFFICE

The applicant will be required to carry out all consumer advisory and mediation work as assigned by the Manager ADR. Offer appropriate advice to consumers of the options available in resolving complaints including referring cases to relevant consumer protection authorities and possible Small Claims Tribunal action if the ADR is unsuccessful. Carry out any other duty assigned by the Manager ADR or the CEO.

 A Degree level qualification in Communication, Journalism, Social Science, Economics, Office Administration or Customer Services is required. At least 3-4 years of demonstrated experience in mediation, information dissemination, education or awareness work. In addition, candidates must have good knowledge of relevant consumer legislation and consumer issues nationally and internationally.  Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to communicate fluently in English and another vernacular; Ability to resolve complaints through ADR processes; Must be able to assess multiple sides of an issue; Ability to make decisions; Strategic thinker, innovative, performance driven and an effective decision maker when dealing with complaints. Salary Level: $22,900 - $30,577. The contract will be for 3 years subject to renewal based on good performance.

 

CONSUMER OFFICER (NATIONAL CONSUMER HELPLINE) – SUVA OFFICE

The successful applicant will be required to: Attend to complaints from consumers in relation to National Consumer Helpline Division; Conduct market surveillances; Research, gather information in consultation with Manager ADR; Carry out relevant field research, data processing, data analysis work. Draft Case Studies to be used in Council’s newsletters and Annual Report. Draft Press Releases on complaints driven issues. Draft Feature Articles on emerging issues.

 A Degree in Economics, Business Studies or Social Science and a minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience is required. A Degree with 2 years’ experience in relevant field or Diploma with 8 years’ experience in relevant field; A firm commitment to consumer protection laws and issues; Good knowledge of relevant consumer protection legislations and Consumer Protection Laws /Issues nationally and internationally; Excellent written and spoken communication skills; Strategic thinker, innovative, performance driven and an effective decision maker when dealing with complaints; Must have excellent analytical and people skills; Excellent negotiation skills; Ability to interact with people from diverse cultural backgrounds both internal and external.

Salary Level: $22,900 - $30,577.  The contract will be for 3 years subject to renewal based on good performance.

 

ASSISTANT CONSUMER OFFICER (NATIONAL CONSUMER HELPLINE) – SUVA OFFICE

The applicant will be required to handle all NCH related work. He/she will be required to: Conduct market surveillance and consumer surveys; Assist in delivering education, information and awareness work through mobile units, community and school visits; Handle consumer complaints; Provide advisory services to consumers on products and services.

 At least possess a Degree level qualification in Communication, Journalism, Social Science, Economics, Office Administration or Customer Services. Degree with 2 years’ experience in relevant field or Diploma with 8 years’ experience in relevant field; A commitment to consumer issues; Fluency in at least one of the vernacular languages is desirable; Excellent communication skills and a self-starter with excellent customer service attributes; Sound IT skills, with knowledge and experience in the use of statistical and office software; Ability to interact with people from diverse cultural backgrounds both internal and external; Good ADR and decision making skills.

Salary Level: $18,783 - $24,180. The contract will be for 3 years subject to renewal for a further period to be determined on good performance.

 

HUMAN RESOURCES AND TRAINING OFFICER – SUVA OFFICE

The primary responsibilities for the role include: effective communication across the organisation, providing HR advice, coaching and support; Review Council’s policies; Recruitment and selection; Employment relations and performance management; Advise on employment laws and Council's own employment policies and procedures; Identify and assess training and development needs and oversee the training programme. Candidates must possess a Degree in Human Resources/Industrial Relations/Public Administration & Management/Business Administration or a related field. A minimum of 4 years post degree proven experience in human resources. Mediation and Tribunal experience with successful outcomes; Knowledge of Employment Relations Act, Regulations and disciplinary procedures is essential. Strong problem solving and disputes/crisis management skills. Applicants should have excellent computer skills and proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Salary Level: $22,900 – $30,577.  The contract will be for 3 years subject to renewal based on good performance.
